ORIGINS

Foundations of a Legacy

Long before Abdulla was born, the foundations of his story were already being laid in the shifting sands of the country now known as the United Arab Emirates. In 1958, at a time when the emirate of Dubai was still a modest trading port on the edge of the Gulf, Saeed and Mohammed Juma Al Naboodah established what would become one of the UAE's most enduring business groups.

Their vision was simple but powerful: to build, to serve, and to grow alongside a country and a city whose ambitions far exceeded its skyline at the time.

To build, to serve, and to grow alongside a country and a city whose ambitions far exceeded its skyline at the time.

As the UAE began its transformation from a coastal hub shaped by merchants, pearl divers, and seafarers into a modern city driven by infrastructure, connectivity, and bold leadership, the Al Naboodah Group evolved with it. Roads were carved through desert, buildings rose from sand, and industries took shape almost overnight. The group became part of that momentum, contributing quietly but significantly to the physical and economic framework of the UAE.

EARLY LIFE

Formation of a Vision

Into this legacy, Abdulla was born in 1976 at a moment when the UAE's trajectory — having been formed just a few years earlier in 1971 — was no longer uncertain, but accelerating. From the outset, he was surrounded by the language of enterprise, growth, and resilience. Business and entrepreneurship were not distant concepts; they were embedded in his DNA, shaping his outlook from an early age.

He grew up understanding that building was not just about structures or transactions, but about purpose — about creating something that would endure.

Studied business in the United Kingdom and United States, developing a sharpened understanding of international standards, governance, and innovation.

His early years unfolded in parallel with the country's rapid expansion. Where previous generations had built from scarcity, Abdulla witnessed scale, speed, and possibility. With that came a clear sense of mission: to carry forward a legacy that was both familial and national. His vision would take shape around a simple but powerful idea — to build and create not only for the continuity of his family's name, but for the long-term prosperity of the UAE itself.

His education took him beyond the UAE, to the UK and the USA, where he studied business in environments shaped by global markets and mature economies. These experiences broadened his perspective. He returned to the UAE not just with academic knowledge, but with a sharpened understanding of how international standards, governance, and innovation could be adapted to a nation which at that time was still actively defining its place in the global economy.

Leadership

Building the Group

Rather than stepping immediately into leadership, Abdulla chose to build his career within the Al Naboodah Group from the ground up. He immersed himself in the business — its operations, its people, and its culture — developing a deep, practical understanding of what sustained its success. This deliberate approach was grounded in the values he had inherited: discipline, humility, and a commitment to long-term impact over short-term gain.

Over time, his responsibilities expanded, particularly within the construction arm of the business, an area closely tied to the UAE's ongoing development. Infrastructure had always been central to the country's rise, and Abdulla approached it with a mindset rooted in both legacy and ambition. For him, every project was more than delivery; it was a contribution to a larger national story.

Abdulla became majority shareholder and Chairman of the Al Naboodah Construction Group — a continuation of a multi-generational vision that began in 1958.

Investment & Sport

Extending the Mandate

Beyond the family business, Abdulla extended his efforts into investments and sport — recognising that the UAE's future lies in diversification as much as in infrastructure. His involvement in sport reflects both personal passion and a commitment to the nation's societal and cultural development.

Appointed by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2010 — served as Chairman of Al Ahli Club (now Shabab Al Ahli Club), strengthening the club's organisational structure and competitive ambitions.

His leadership during this period demonstrated his belief that sport plays a vital role in national identity, youth development, and international engagement.

DUBAI BASKETBALL

Building a Sport Platform

This belief found its most ambitious expression in 2024, when Abdulla founded Dubai Basketball — an initiative designed not only to establish a professional team, but to create an entirely new sporting platform for the region. Conceived as a gateway between the UAE and the global basketball ecosystem, the project captured both vision and timing: a recognition that Dubai was ready to participate in — and contribute to — the highest levels of international sport.

By 2025, the team secured a EuroLeague wild card, marking a historic milestone for both the club and the region. The achievement recognised more than sporting success; it further positioned Dubai on the map of elite international basketball, opening pathways for regional talent, global partnerships, and a new generation of fans.

GOLF & GLOBAL REACH

The Dubai Invitational

Alongside this, Abdulla's role as a non-executive director of the DP World Tour further connects the UAE to a global sporting network, reinforcing the country's reputation as a hub for world-class sporting events. This influence is mirrored in the evolution of the Dubai Invitational.

Traces its roots to 2008, when Abdulla founded and hosted the Al Naboodah Invitational — first staged in Dubai. Now part of the DP World Tour calendar, attracting world-class players including Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and Shane Lowry.

What began as a more intimate competition steadily developed under his guidance, eventually becoming part of the DP World Tour calendar as the Dubai Invitational. By 2026, the tournament had firmly established itself as an elite pro-am, attracting world-class players such as Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and Shane Lowry. Through sustained investment, international partnerships, and a distinctive format that blends professional excellence with amateur participation, Abdulla has transformed the event into a flagship fixture.

LEGACY

Building for Generations

Abdulla's journey is defined by a commitment to building — whether through infrastructure, investment, or sport — with a focus on creating lasting value in the form of institutions, opportunities, and systems that will endure for generations. At its core is a clear and enduring mission: to honour the legacy he inherited while actively shaping the one he will pass on.

In many ways, Abdulla's story is inseparable from that of the UAE itself — both are narratives of ambition and continuity, of growth rooted in strong foundations, and of an unwavering commitment to building not just for today, but for the generations to come.
